All 7th graders take the Library/Research class during one trimester.  You will learn about:

  • How libraries are organized
  • The Dewey Decimal system: thank you Melvil Dewey!
  • Evaluating research sources: both print and online
  • Print Reference sources such as almanacs and atlases
  • the History of the Internet and the World Wide Web
  • OCLN:  Abington Public Library is part of the Old Colony Library Network.  Learn how to search the online catalog and reference databases.
  • Tim Berners-Lee, Bill Gates, Jerry Yang: who are they and why are they important?
  • what are subject directories and search engines and when should you use them?
  • online searching techniques to make your searches more efficient:  boolean operators, phrase searching and truncation
