Family Literacy Night
Join us for Family Math night on Thursday, April 2nd from 5:30-6:30 in the gym! It is a great evening where families can take part in Literacy games and activities together. The Scholastic Book Fair will also be open that evening for families who may want to shop together. We look forward to seeing you!
From the Nurse's Office
We want to inform you of a recent uptick in gastrointestinal illness cases within our community. As a precautionary measure to prevent further spread, we kindly request that if your child experiences vomiting or diarrhea, they stay home for a minimum of 24 hours after the symptoms have subsided. This not only aids in their recovery but also helps safeguard the health of other students and staff.
Please also remember to send a copy of your child's yearly physical to Nurse Brown.
You may contact Renee Brown, school nurse, if you have any questions at reneebrown@abingtonps.org
Student Absences
Our attendance policy allows for parents to excuse up to 9 student absences for illness with a phone call or email toBBESoffice@abingtonps.org. Without notification, student absences are marked as unexcused. Family vacations are considered unexcused absences Once a student accumulates 5 unexcused absences, attendance notification letters are sent home. Absences are always marked as excused if a doctor’s note is provided. Thank you for your help with this!
K-5 Literacy Pilot
Abington Public Schools is piloting two high quality English Language Arts programs this spring: Amplify’s Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) and HMH Into Reading. Seven K–5 teachers will field test these programs in their classrooms and share feedback on materials, instruction, and student engagement. During this pilot, students in pilot classrooms will continue to focus on ELA standards from the Massachusetts State ELA Framework. Our ELA Curriculum Council will use this feedback, along with reviews from EdReports and CURATE, to recommend a new K-5 curriculum adoption for the 2026–2027 school year. This work and resources are supported through the PRISM II Grant and the Instructional Materials Article approved in Abington last spring.
