Successful Start to the School Year!
We are so proud of our first and second grade students for a great first week back! They are already learning classroom routines, making new friends, and settling into the school year. We are looking forward to welcoming our newest BBES students when Kindergarten starts on Tuesday! Thank you to all of our families for your support and partnership as our school year gets started.
International Dot Day: BBES will celebrate International Dot Day Tuesday, September 15th! International Dot Day is a celebration of creativity, courage, and collaboration as told in Peter H. Reynold's children's book, The Dot. Students are encouraged to wear polka dots in celebration! You can read about International Dot Day HERE.
Breakfast at BBES: Breakfast is available from our cafeteria each morning. Families can bring students to Door B (Gym Door) 8:30-8:45 for breakfast. All other students can go to breakfast as soon as they get off the bus or get dropped off by car in the morning. Students may not bring breakfast from home to eat in the cafeteria but are welcome to choose a breakfast option from the cafeteria lin
BBES School Council Parent Reps Needed
Our School Council has an opening for two parent representatives. Our school council is an integral way to provide feedback on school programs and our school improvement plan. If we receive more than two interested parents, we will hold a schoolwide election for that position. Please fill out THIS FORM if you are interested in being considered. The BBES School Council meets at 4pm at BBES on 10/1, 12/3, 3/4, and 5/6.
Lunch Containers: When packing lunches from home, please include containers that are either plastic or metal. We have had a couple of instances this week with glass containers breaking in the cafeteria. Thank you for your help with this.
Lost & Found: Unfortunately, hundreds of unlabeled items go unclaimed each year and are donated at the end of the year. Please label everything. We go through the lost and found on a regular basis looking for name so that we can get items back to their owners. Students at this age do not always recognize they are missing something - labels helps tremendously. Writing names on Sharpies on tags work great! Thank you for your help with this!
Smartwatches/Electronic Devices: Many young students wear smartwatches, according to the BBES Handbook, all electronic devices should be turned off and stored in the backpack during the day and should not be used to video or audio record due to confidentiality reasons. For tracking options, an Apple Air Tag, works great for this purpose without the added distraction of a Smart watch. Thank you for your collaboration as we work to create a great learning environment.
Bus Transportation
A big thank you for your patience with buses this week as drivers learn their routes and students become familiar with their stops. With Kindergarten starting this week, there will be more stops and new students learning the bus routine. We know this takes a little extra time at the beginning of the year and we truly appreciate your understanding. As a general reminder, an adult must be present outside at the stop (rather than in the door or car, to get students from the bus. This also allows drivers to recognize parents and caregivers as the year goes on.
Breakfast Reminder
Students may be dropped off and signed in by a parent or caregiver for breakfast at the Gym door (Door B) between 8:30–8:45 AM in the cafeteria. Please note that breakfast must be provided by the school and cannot be brought from home. After 8:45, students can enter the building from the bus or car drop off and walk to the cafeteria for breakfast.
Morning Drop-Off Procedures via Car
To help keep our morning drop-off safe and efficient:
• Students should exit the passenger side of the vehicle.
• Guardians stay in the vehicle so that the rolling drop-off line moves quickly and smoothly.
Staff members will be there to help students get out of the vehicle.

Dismissal Changes
For any student dismissal changes, please send a note to your child's teacher or email bbesoffice@abingtonps.org. Please do not email or send a message to your child's teacher during the day regarding dismissal changes in the event they are unable to check their messages or are out of the classroom for any reason that day.
Student Information Update
As you may know, Abington Public Schools uses Aspen as our student information management system. It is critical for families to update their students’ basic information (address, phone, emergency contact, etc.) when changes occur following the directions linked below (a printed copy will not be sent home this year Questions about accessing the Parent Portal may be directed to our Tech Services Department.
