Good afternoon, Abington students and families,

I hope this letter finds you well as we welcome October in New England. Our start of school went incredibly well as we welcomed new students and staff into our larger school community. It was great to meet so many parents and families at our Open House in September! I wanted to pass along some information about upcoming events during October at Abington High School.

Parent Conferences - Thursday October 9th 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm and Friday October 10th 11:45am - 2:00pm - Abington High School will host parent conferences on Thursday and Friday of next week for in person or remote conferences using Microsoft Booking, and remote meetings will be done with Microsoft Teams.

into your browser.

When signing up for conferences please share the first and last name of your student(s) so our teachers can be prepared with accurate information for your meeting. Please indicate in the comments if you prefer a virtual or in-person conference; our teachers will be prepared for both.

If you are unable to set up a meeting with a teacher, please reach out to us so we can provide help or facilitate a connection with the staff member.

Progress Reports Issued Friday October 10th - Teachers will share your student’s progress in their class using progress reports by the end of the day on Friday October 10th. Your student’s progress report can be viewed under the ‘Published Reports’ heading on their Aspen homepage.

Student Information Updates on Aspen - As you may know, Abington Public Schools uses Aspen as our student information management system. It is critical for families to update their student's basic information (address, phone, emergency contact, etc.) when changes occur – please use the directions linked below for reference.

School Communications on Thrillshare - All district and school communications including newsletters, updates, and announcements will be posted on our webpage and sent through Thrillshare, our communication platform (via email, SMS message, and Live Feed within our app). To ensure you receive all Abington Public Schools information, please take a moment to log into Aspen and verify that the email addresses listed for your student’s first two contacts are accurate and up to date. Thrillshare will use this information to send communications directly to you.

Rooms Two-Way Communication - Beginning this school year, ALL schools in the district are now using Rooms for 2-way communication between our schools/classrooms and families. Please download the Abington Public School app to join the conversation. More information about Rooms, including links to download our app can be found here: https://www.abingtonps.org/o/aps/page/rooms-1-pager

If you have trouble lodging into the app, please let us know via the APS Helpdesk portal at https://incidentiq.abingtonps.org.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us make these transition smooth and effective. Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our students and schools.

Staffing Updates - Since the start of school, I am happy to share that on October 6th Dr. Kathleen Kelley will join the ELE Department as ELE Director and Teacher. Ms. Kelley joins us with prior experience in a similar role from Milford and will be picking up two sections of English Language Education at the high school in addition to her work around the district. We are also excited to welcome Jennifer Nantes as the ELE Tutor who will be working alongside Dr. Kelley, and will also support students in classes throughout the day.

Anonymous Reporting - Abington High School has an anonymous tip line to report any concerns about the school, typically used for reporting bullying, harassment, and/or discrimination. The link below allows people to submit reports and concerns that go directly to our administration. While this tip line is anonymous and available as needed, we also encourage you to contact us directly, as we seek to create and maintain a positive school culture and climate in partnerships with families and the community.
