WES PARENT PLACEMENT FEEDBACK

Each spring, the staff at Woodsdale Elementary School begins to formulate class lists for the following school year. We believe it is important that you are informed about and part of this process.

When staff consider placement of children for the following school year, many variables are taken into consideration. These include heterogeneous groupings, reading levels, social interactions, number of girls and boys, number of children requiring additional assistance and enrichment, the total number of children in a classroom, and teacher observations. Also, recommendations made by the special education team and other service providers are thoroughly considered.

During the placement process, classroom teachers, special education teachers, and support staff will meet with administrators to consult about student placement. The process is thoughtful, deliberate, systematic and completed by our professional staff.  Although the school is responsible for final placement, you are invited to provide input regarding observations about your child’s learning style, learning needs, and the type of environment in which you believe your child will be most successful.

All forms must be received no later than Friday, May 1, 2026. Even if you have provided information to the school in the past or have discussed your thoughts with the classroom teacher, it is important that you consider filling this form out each year. As you complete this form, please understand that we cannot honor requests for specific teachers.

MESSAGE FROM THE NURSE

With the arrival of spring and an increase in outdoor activities, sports, playtime, and sleepovers (including sharing helmets and hair accessories), we typically see a rise in cases of head lice.

We encourage families to check their child’s hair and scalp regularly for signs of lice or nits. Early detection helps prevent further spread and keeps our school community healthy.

For helpful information on prevention, identification, and treatment, please visit the Massachusetts Department of Public Health resource below:

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

MESSAGE FROM CENTRAL OFFICE:

Impact of the Proposition 2½ Override

Dear Families,

As you may know, the upcoming Town of Abington Proposition 2½ override vote will have a direct impact on our schools and the services we are able to provide for students. If the override is successful, it will allow us to maintain current programming, class sizes, and student supports. If it does not pass, the district will need to make difficult reductions that will affect staffing, class sizes, and opportunities for students.

The list of proposed cuts can be found here: FY27 Proposed Cuts . Additional budget information can be found at https://www.abingtonps.org/

I will be hosting Cookies, Coffee and Conversations with the Superintendent on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 7:30am and 5:00pm at the Frolio Building (1071 Washington Street) to answer any questions you may have. I am also available via email at feliciamoschella@abingtonps.org or by phone at 781.982.2150.

Town Meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 4, at Abington High School (201 Gliniewicz Way) and the ballot election is Saturday, May 16, at the Beaver Brook Elementary School (1 Ralph G. Hamlin, Jr. Lane).

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Dr. Felicia Moschella

DIMISSAL CHANGES

Just a reminder: if your child’s dismissal plan changes once the school day has begun, please contact the main office directly. Teachers are not always able to check email during the day, and this can lead to miscommunication. Thank you for your cooperation and support in following this policy.

COMMUNICATION – ROOMS
