Dear Woodsdale Families,
Welcome to another exciting school year at Woodsdale School! I hope this letter finds your family enjoying a restful and joyful summer. As I begin my second year as principal, I want to thank our Woodsdale community for the trust and partnership you've shown over the past year. I am excited to continue working with our amazing third and fourth grade students and families as we build upon the successes of last year and make this school year our best yet.
As we are preparing to welcome students back, now is a wonderful time to help them get ready for another year of learning. Encouraging your child to read each day, practice math facts, write in a journal, or engage in educational activities can help keep their academic skills sharp throughout the remainder of the summer. These small opportunities to practice and learn can help students return to school feeling confident and ready to tackle new challenges.
We've been busy this summer preparing our classrooms and planning for another memorable and meaningful year. Here are a few important reminders:
School Day Hours: Our school day begins at 8:40 a.m. and ends at 2:40 p.m. Students may arrive as early as 8:10 a.m. if they are eating breakfast. Classroom doors will open at 8:25 a.m. We kindly ask that students who are not eating breakfast not be dropped off before 8:25, as staff supervision is limited prior to that time.
Communication: This year, Woodsdale will continue using ROOMS as our primary communication platform between home and school. Families will receive important classroom and school-wide updates through ROOMS and our weekly Woodsdale newsletter. More information about accessing ROOMS will be available on our website, and staff will be available to help families get connected during Open House.
Open House: Please join us on Monday, August 31, from 3:30–5:30 p.m. for our Open House! This is a wonderful opportunity for students to meet their teacher, visit their classroom, drop off school supplies, and begin feeling comfortable and excited about the new school year.
School Supply Lists: Grade-level supply lists are available on the Woodsdale website. We encourage families to review the lists prior to the first day of school to ensure students are prepared for a successful start.
Our Woodsdale Core Values – S.O.A.R.: Throughout the school year, we will continue reinforcing our four core characteristics: Supportive, Outstanding, Accountable, and Respectful. These values help create a positive, inclusive school community where every student can learn, grow, and thrive.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. This year, we are committed to raising the bar academically by providing meaningful learning experiences that challenge every student to reach their full potential, while continuing to support their social and emotional well-being. We look forward to another fantastic year of learning, growth, and success together.
Warm regards,
Melanie Savicke
